Warrings: we provide truck insurance to the haulage industry

Warrings are a specialist truck insurance broker with a very good technical understanding of the insurance requirements of trucks, heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and haulage businesses. We have worked very closely with a number of hauliers over the years and this experience has helped us develop a range of the most appropriate insurance solutions for transport companies.

In insurance terms, HGVs are a special risk. Today there are close on 450,000 UK registered lorries on our roads. This number has been steadily reducing since the mid-sixties when there were around 600,000 goods vehicles registered. Whilst the economy has grown significantly during the past 40 years, hauliers have become far more sophisticated. Trucks are better managed by logistics experts; IT and the use of the internet have been heavily incorporated into the process to make operations more efficient and of course trucks have got bigger.

Operating and insuring a fleet of trucks has changed dramatically in the last few decades. The days of a truck setting off to a destination full and coming back empty are long gone. A truck which might travel 65,000 miles in a year will today complete a staggering 85% of that journey loaded. Truck maximum weight is now 44 tonnes, and as an articulated lorry will only achieve in the region of 8-9 miles per gallon of fuel, avoiding running a truck empty is the Holy Grail for all good transport managers.

The haulage market has also become more competitive. Efficient operators have squeezed margins to remain competitive under pressure from suppliers. Whilst this has probably had a beneficial effect upon the environment, it has forced out the less well organised haulage businesses which have suffered or collapsed as only the most economic, fuel efficient businesses with optimal utilisation of their fleets have survived.

The main operational running costs for a haulage business comprise of:

  • Fuel
  • Drivers’ salaries
  • Depreciation or rental costs of the vehicles
  • Management and logistics costs of running and operating the fleet and the business
  • Costs of the base or depot
  • Maintenance
  • Truck Insurance
  • Employers and Public liability Insurance

Goods in transit insurance

At Warrings we probably can not help you with running the logistical operations of your business any better or managing staff costs or minimising your maintenance charges. We can however assist you in ensuring that your fleet of lorries is well insured at the most economical rate. We can also help you choose the correct level of Goods in Transit insurance cover and help you make sure that you are adequately covered for things like employers and public liability risks. We can also provide very competitive buildings and contents insurance for your haulage business if you operate from a yard or a depot. And this will all have a positive impact on your business and, hopefully, upon the profitability of your organisation.

You will also have the peace of mind that because we specialise in truck insurance, if the worst happens and you need to make a claim in the event an HGV is involved in an accident, or if you have a claim made against you, your business or one of your staff members for an insured risk, our claims staff will work with you swiftly and professionally to bring the matter to a speedy conclusion so that you can get back to business.

For help and assistance from heavy goods vehicle insurance experts, call Warrings or complete one of the online forms and we will call you back at the time you specify on the form.
